How to Ship a PC Properly
Shipping a PC can be very hard on it’s internal hardware, ecspecially the harddrive. So the first thing you want to do before you ship a PC is to backup the harddrive. This can be done by using Windows free built-in backup software. Here’s a guide to how to backup your harddrive in Windows XP.
Windows Vista and Windows 2000 also has these same backup features built-in. This utility can be accessed in Windows 2000 by going to ‘Start’, then ‘Program Files’, then ‘Accessories’, then ‘System Tools’, and then by clicking on backup.
After you’ve backed up your hard drive it’s time to prepare it for shipping. The next important thing you need to do is to wrap your PC in a moving blanket. Moving Blankets are made to prevent scratches and dents. Imagine getting a dent on the side of the case your motherboard is mounted on, it wouldn’t be pretty, the most expensive component in your PC would definately be ruined. That’s why using a moving blanket is a must.
Once your PC is wrapped up, backed up, and secured then you can place it in a box that makes it as tight of a fit as possible. Placing it in a box too big will definately cause your PC to be rattled around a lot which could cause wires and other components to be disconnected or damaged. Be sure to fill up any extra space with newspaper or packing popcorn and your PC will be just fine.
