How to Clean a Keyboard

Keyboard cleaningHeavily used input devices such as a keyboard and mouse need to be cleaned regularly to keep them working well. Dust, dirt, and food can all accumulate under the keys which causes them to eventually not to work.

A simple way to help keep your keyboard clean is to simply use a damp cloth. Turning the keyboard upside and lightly bumping the keys will help remove any debris the damp cloth couldn’t reach. If a key is still unresponsive you can try to use a compressed can of air to blow out the debris from under the key. If that still doesn’t work than you can remove the caps on the bad keys with a chip extractor and thoroughly clean out any debris. Then spray contact cleaner into the key well.

  1. Those are really good points but just adding to that a toothbrush [unused ofcourse] you can just brush in between the keys and like taking off plack it takes off the dust from inbetween the keys too! thanks for the help

  2. Or simply put in the dish washer. No really, that’s not a joke, I’ve done it myself. Just make sure it’s dry before you plug it in :-)

  3. I usually just buy a new one!

  5. oh my god.. that was really helpful.. bad keys are can be injurious to health

  6. the best way is to take apart the entire keyboard using a screwdriver, especially if you have the habit of accidentally spilling water between your keys.Pop off the keys and put in a bucket of water and leave em to soak, and apply liberal doses of water to the plastic shell they were attached to.

Dry it all off,put it all back together again and voila, good as new.
